  • Soft Chinese Roses

    Soft Chinese Roses

The flowers in the vase at home were replaced with a bouquet of Chinese roses, their centers a soft pink, fading to white at the petals, with just a hint of green along the edges. Against the white backdrop of the wall, they swayed faintly in the breeze, hazy and dreamy—just how I like it.

I mounted my Fujifilm medium-format digital camera, the GFX 50s II, attached an adapted Nikon-mount Sigma 150mm macro lens, and captured a series of close-ups.

The out-of-camera shots were already quite good—colors, contrast, white balance, and details were all perfectly usable. But they still fell short of the feeling I wanted—soft and dreamy.

After importing them into my computer, I used DXO PhotoLab to tweak them into the vision I had in mind.

  • Erhai Lake in Chinese Painting

While cycling along Erhai Lake in Dali, Yunnan, China, the days were filled with rain and wind. The trees and birds in the lake appeared as though they were part of a traditional Chinese painting.

    Jiuzhai Valley in Autumn

“When I traveled from Singapore to Jiuzhai Valley in Sichuan, China, it felt like leaping from summer straight into a vibrant autumn. The leaves were transforming into shades of yellow and red, the streams grew clearer and more energetic, and the air turned refreshingly cool.

  • Mountain Reflected

When I entered the gates of the natural park in Songping Valley, Sichuan, China, it was late afternoon. The fading sunlight illuminated a serene lake before me, dotted with several small tourist boats. What struck me most was the reflection of the mountain on the lake’s surface—rugged and imposing, standing at an altitude of over 3,000 meters in the heart of winter.

  • Glimpse of Chongqing

Years ago in cold weather I arrived at Chongqing Airport very late, about 9pm, to transit to the express train to Chengdu the next early morning. It was already 10pm when I checked into a hotel around Hongya Cave, a famous travel destination in Chongqing, China.

With my Leica M digital monochrome and Zeiss ZM lens, I walked around River Jialing, along with the overwhelming tourists in the night. Before daybreak the next, I photographed again the riverside in black and white.

The next mornig, I got up very early, and walked along the Jialing River again before the sun brightened the misty sky.

  • Misty Morning in Wu Yuan

    Misty Morning in Wu Yuan

A foggy morning in Wu Yuan, Jiang Xi, China, Nov 2018.

The photo captures a serene and ethereal scene of a misty river in Wu Yuan. The soft light of the November morning gently illuminates the mist rising from the calm waters. In the distance, a solitary figure paddles a small boat, creating ripples on the water’s surface. The surrounding landscape is shrouded in fog, with outlines of trees and hills barely visible through the haze. This image evokes a sense of tranquility and the timeless beauty of nature.
